As a Doula, I Do Not:
Birth Doula Service
The first consultation is one hour and free of charge. This initial meeting gives us a chance to get to know each other. The second meeting we go over your birth plan, or write one. We also discuss when you may want me to come to you when your in labor. If you are planning a c-section we will go over hospital protocol, and what your rights are as a patient, so that you can have an optimal bonding experience with your newborn.
As your birth doula:
You will have acess to my library of books, cds, and other information.
I can show you how to baby wear using a ring sling, mei tai carrier, or structured carrier.
Provide you with nutritional information.
Teach you how to care for your baby.
Provide you with basic information on breastfeeding, and if need be refer you to certified lactation consultant postpartum.
I will take pictures or video if asked, with your camera.
2 Prenatal Visits
There is a standard of two visits as your birth doula.
Phone & Email Support
As a doula client you will have acess to me via, phone, text, and email around the clock.
During labor
I come to you when you feel you need me, usually when labor is more instense. It is best I do not come too early, so that I don't interfere with your natural progression. It is better to wait until labor is more established, unless you clearly need my support. I stay with you until you deliver your baby, and breastfeeding is established.
Baby’s first feeding Support
After you give birth I will stay around for one hour to answer questions, and support your breastfeeding needs. I also will inform you on what resources you have at the hospital regarding breastfeeding.
Perform any clinical tasks
I do NOT perform any clinical duties, such as heart rate checks or vaginal exams, or give medical advice.
Make decisions for you
I do NOT make any decisions for you. Instead I remind you of the goals, and needs that you and I have discussed, and provide you with evidence based information so that you can make the best choices for you, your body, and baby.
Speak to the staff on your behalf
I can NOT speak to the staff on your behalf, it is up to you or your partner to speak with the staff.
Postpartum follow-up visit
I provide one or two postpartum follow up visits, just depending on what each client may need. At this visit I will answer breastfeeding, or bottle feeding questions. I will also answer any questions you may have about the postpartum period, and provide you with information and resources to make sure you have the best baby moon.
Postpartum Doula Services
As a postpartum doula I will help the family to adjust with their newborn baby (babies). I do whatever the mother and family may need to help make it a smoother transition. I support the mother in the way she wants to raise her new baby. I remind her to care for herself, so that she does not burn out.
